Planning is Important: When combing out every coiffure by Louis Schmidt

1. Comb hair straight back from hairline. On right, form shadow wave at hairline. Wind first row of pin curls counterclockwise; second, clockwise. 2. Comb hair in top section sleekly back to crown. On left, set two rows of curls behind shadow wave. First row is clockwise; next, counterclockwise.
3. Set top section in row of stand-up curls at crown. Wind back pin curls up from neck in four rows: left of center, counterclockwise; right, clockwise. 4. Brush pin curls out thoroughly. Part off crown area in rectangular section. Draw left half of section to right side, patron holds other half.
5. Divide hair portion you are holding into three strands; braid together, drawing strand at extreme back over the other two strands. 6. This is how left side section should look after braiding is completed. Next, other half of crown section is braided and drawn toward left side of the head.
7. Braids are pinned out of way temporarily. Next, preparatory to forming sides into waves, divide each side in two large sections, and ruff. 8. Then, with brush, smooth outer surface of side waves. Go over hair several times with brush until it is smooth enough. Hair is held firmly.
9. Hold side hair at upward angle, as shown, and gently coax it into desired wave lines. Check both sides carefully to be sure waves are symmetrical. 10. Push reverse roll into place with your hand, and firm it with a little lacquer. then lay braids along edge of roll from crown to front hairlines.
11. Comb loose ends of braids into smooth curls and arrange them, as shown, so no ends are visible. Smooth flat top hair. This completes the front. 12. Brush back hair up from hairline smoothly, and arrange in large roll, to cover base of braids. Bring ends of roll to outside, arrange in ringlets.
